In today’s review we are going to look at the santos commercial juicer specifically the Santos 70 evolution lever citrus juicer. This was going to be one of the first juicers we reviewed that had the commercial lever design. While most of the manual citus juicers we use that have a lever generally have a specific design, the design by santos is actually quite unique in its own league.
Santos Juicers – The history
Santos claims that this machine was designed with keeping in mind small cafes, restaurants, and smaller operations that generally need to produce large amounts of fresh juice in a small amount of time. Before the unboxing we had gone in with pre-conceived notions that this might not be the right machine for the home as it has specifically been designed for more commercial operations. In fact the santos juicer originates from spain where it is found quite often and frequently in small hole in the wall bars and restaurants. We actually came across someone using this machine on our trip to Spain last summer and decided we need to look into if this is sold in the market to the public, and low and behold it is.
We were quite extatic when we were able to do a bit of research and find out that the juicer was available to the public in the States. As a result we had to dig deep into this one. It is not quite often that you will find a commercial grade orange juicer hailing from Spain being sold to the public in the United States.
So a little bit about the history of Santos the company is that it was originally started in 1954 by Andre Fouquet in France which was dedicated to creating electrical equipment for hotels, cafes, restaurants, juice bars, and coffee shops. Their primary goal is to serve the restaurant industry and they cater most of their equipment to making machinery that is well crafted to both serve restaurants and bars at highly efficient levels. From the get go of the launch of the company over sixty years ago they specialized in making coffee grinders and cheese graters and eventually dove into the market of making other kinds of equipment such as orange juice machines, espresso machines and others of that sort. Santos now has re-vamped its research and development department to produce new and innovative machines to cater to efficient juicing as well as coffee fanatics. On a side note we do love our coffee but the primary focus of this article is to cover how an under-dog like santos is able to manufacture such great juicers.
To our surprise the Santos juicer can be found in over 130 countries worldwide not only in restaurants and cafes, but also amongst large importers, distributors, and retailers.
***From the get go of unboxing the Santos commercial orange juicer we realized that it was quite hefty, a good 33lbs which got us a bit excited that this guy is ready to handle some big jobs. The spout height on the juicer is a good 8.6 inches which leaves a lot of leeway and room for a large jug or glass. This is perfect for wanting to juice large quantities of juice at once as well as juicing several oranges at once. While most other juicers in this price range can only juice one or two oranges, the santos is able to juice a large amount of oranges.
***The total amount of average output for the juicer is about 13 gallons an hour which is equivalent to about 50 liters an hour. We found that it was quite difficult to find any other commercial juicer in this price range that would have this large of an output of orange juice. This makes it perfect for not only the professional environment but also for home. If you have a large family or simply want to make fresh orange juice for the whole family in the morning this would be the best way to go.
***Does a great job at not only juicing fresh oranges, but as well as grapefruit and lemons. There was not much of a compatibility issue when it came to putting in different sized citrus fruits. We really found this a great feature of the juicer as usually we find it difficult to find a juicer with proper one size fits all capabilities. We can safely say that this was great when it came to juicing all different sizes of citrus fruits.

- The price of this juicer is quite high as it hails from the commercial juicing environment.
- Not for those who are looking to juice small quantities of juice frequently
Overall we would recommend the Santos juicer to primarily those who run small businesses or have big families. For producing large amounts of juice efficiently this makes a great commercial grade juicer. However if you are looking for juicing small amounts of juice then maybe this might not be the best option for you.
